Who We Are

Empowered Dreams Initiative (EDI) is a community-based NGO in Korogocho slums, Nairobi, committed to transforming lives through compassion, empowerment, and opportunity. We work with vulnerable children, young girls, and mothers in the slums, helping them rebuild their confidence, access education, and live with dignity.

Our story began in the heart of Korogocho, one of Kenya’s largest informal settlements, where poverty, mental health struggles, and lack of access to education often limit young people’s potential. Amid these challenges, we witnessed incredible resilience — children who still smiled through hunger, mothers who carried hope despite hardship, and girls who dreamed of education even without basic necessities.

That hope inspired the birth of Empowered Dreams Initiative, a movement dedicated to giving every dream a chance to thrive.

Our Beginning

What started as a small feeding program for children in Korogocho has grown into a powerful community effort that addresses not only hunger but also emotional healing and personal growth. We listened to the stories of girls missing school because they lacked sanitary towels, mothers silently battling depression, and families struggling to meet basic needs.

These experiences shaped our purpose — to restore dignity, promote mental well-being, and create lasting change through education, mentorship, and community care.

Our Work

Empowered Dreams Initiative now serves as a trusted NGO in Korogocho and across Nairobi, providing holistic programs that respond to the real needs of the community.

Our core projects include:

🥣 Feeding Programs: Monthly community feeding events that reach over 500 children, ensuring no child sleeps hungry.

💫 Menstrual Health & Education: Supporting girls with sanitary towels and menstrual education to keep them in school with confidence and pride.

💚 Mental Health & Healing Events: Providing safe spaces for young mothers to share their stories, receive counseling, and heal emotionally.

🌱 Mentorship & Skills Development: Equipping youth and mothers with life skills and guidance to help them achieve self-reliance and purpose.

We partner with organizations such as We Are Mother Earth and ECDAN🌍 to extend our reach and strengthen our impact across Kenya.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every child and mother in Korogocho and beyond can live with hope, confidence, and opportunity. Our long-term goal is to scale our impact across Kenya and the East African Community, empowering more families through mental health awareness, menstrual hygiene education, and economic resilience.
